Low Flows = Good Fishing

adminFishing Report, Fishing Forecast3 Comments

The Big Lost is still fishing great. As long as the weather stays cool the flows out of the dam have stayed low. As we warm up in the next couple of weeks we will get higher flows so go over and fish as soon as possible. Make sure you check the flows before you go – Idaho Streamflows. In the afternoons there are strong hatches of large Baetis, size 18-20. Nymph fishing is also good, make sure you have some Rainbow Warriors and Zebra Midges in different colors. Steelhead fishing has been extended until May 15th. There are still fish in the system with lots of wild fish left.

  1. I'll be in Sun Valley area June 2, 3 & 4. What might the stream conditions and fishing be like?
    Any chance for steelhead?

  2. The 2nd-4th of June will be a great time for fishing on Silver Creek. The Big Wood and its tributaries will be very high and dangerous until late into June this year. The Big Lost and Salmon will also be very high, the snowpack is well above average and still in the mountains.

Steelhead season closed May 15th, with the standard date being April 30th.

Look forward to seeing you soon!
