South Caicos Island
“Big South” is a remarkable place, where intact groups of anglers can have an entire blue ribbon bonefish flats system to themselves for an entire week! On South Caicos Island, our friend Ganger Lockhart is the island's only guide, and he has the only boat capable of accessing the vast majority of the shallow Caicos Bank. Where tens of thousands of bonefish flourish and have seen only a handful of anglers over the years we’ve fished there. Bonefish on Big South are easy to catch and in a size range from two pounds to eight pounds, with a few double digit fish being landed each season as well. There are few places better suited for flats enthusiasts that want to know what it is like to have an entire ecosystem at their disposal.
Silver Creek Guides R & D
Silver Creek’s guests on South Caicos employ the use of an enormous Everglades style airboat that can go where a normal prop driven flats skiff cannot. This boat unlocks vast amounts of fishing opportunity. The fishing is strictly walk and wade over nice white sand flats, and a few softer ones if the fish have gone into the backcountry. The fishing here is relatively unguided. Ganger will take you to where the fish are, but once there anglers that have well tuned skill sets will catch all the nice sized bonefish they desire. Beginners will also catch plenty of fish on these flats, and will leave as well tuned bonefish anglers themselves.
Accommodations on South Caicos consist of several comfortable condos where groups of friends can relax and take in the Ocean breezes. Meals are set out buffet style and often consist of the catch of the day, bought in by local fishermen. Breakfast is traditional and hardy and lunch is taken on the boat. There is a comfortable common area where refreshments can be taken and Dominoes tournaments begin. The town near the Condos is full of friendly islanders and a trip to the local bars and eateries can be as adventurous and fun as the fishing. Despite the tropical location of South Caicos, Big South is for the serious fly angler that wants to fish in some of the worlds most productive bonefish areas. Anglers looking to be pampered, or are in need of constant attention from guides and staff should look to other destinations. “Big South” is one big fishing adventure that many, many Silver Creek guests continue to go back to each and every season.
