Los Roques
Venezuela
Location means everything. The brilliant Los Roques archipelago is unmatched for sheer beauty in a bonefish location. The rocky isles of this island chain give this bonefish local a unique look and feel not found in other Caribbean locations. Strong numbers of bonefish swim and feed amongst the 350 islands that form the Caribbean's largest national park. The bays, flats and lagoons are prime bonefish haunts, with anglers fishing to occasional tarpon and permit as well. Los Roques anglers have the unique opportunity to fish with a guide as well as a boatman, allowing them fish their way across the small pancake flats the bonefish frequent and be picked up by the same boat that dropped them. This allows anglers the opportunity to fish more areas and spend less time backtracking across previously fished flats. Along with the small pancake flats anglers will encounter turtle grass as well as stark white bottomed flats and also enormous tidal flats and mangrove systems. The variety of fishing areas keeps the fly-fishing interesting and anglers on their toes. The size and fighting quality of the areas bonefish is excellent and they take a well presented fly eagerly.
